My whole trip home was a nightmare! Check engine light and battery light are good. Something sounded like a blender under the hood (water pump?), and now it won't even turn over most of the time when I started parking and it died. The battery just over a year. Engine toast, or something salvageable? Any advice before I call the tow truck again?

Okay let's start from the basics first, try checking your batt terminals, maybe they might just be corroded.

I'm guessing corroded terminals or dead battery. The belt isn't slipping, but the car won't crank most of the time. Occasionally, it will crank for a second or two then die. I've even tried jump-starting it from my diesel for a whole hour, but no luck. While the water pump might need replacing eventually, that shouldn't stop it from starting, right?
